Actuators control valves on Argentinean pipeline

ROTORK Fluid Systems has supplied electro-hydraulic actuators to provide remote valve control to the Puesto Hernanadez-El Corcobo Norte oil pipeline in south-west Argentina.

The pipeline has been fitted with the EH Series solar-powered, Modbus-enabled actuators.

The pipe system traverses 80km through the isolated Neuquen region near the Argentina-Chile border. Ambient temperatures in this harsh environment can drop below zero in winter.

The company says the actuators are controlled and monitored by a remote Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system through the Modbus protocol. The devices provide diagnostics, fault indication and position indication to the pipeline technicians.

The units are also housed in a waterproof and explosion-proof enclosure.

The project was handled by engineering and construction contractors Arcan and Skanska for Petroandina Resources, the pipeline’s operators.
