Six ways to help compressed air systems run better

EXAIR has recommended engineers follow six steps which can make their compressed air systems more efficient and even boost plant performance in difficult financial times.

The first step is to measure the air consumption of the system with a digital flowmeter. Then the technician should use an ultrasonic leak detector to locate and fix any compressed air leaks.

The company says the third step is to upgrade any blow-off applications to enhance efficiency. For the fourth stage, technicians should turn off the compressed air when it is not needed. Electronic flow controllers can be applied to automatically manage this.

According to the manufacturer, the fifth step is to store any compressed air near the point of use in receiver tanks and other such devices. The last recommendation is to install pressure regulators to control the point of use pressure and therefore minimise air consumption.
