CAIRNS-BASED manufacturer Tescorp Hydraulics has been granted a $1.5m contract by the UK Electricity Alliance, to supply a purpose built cable-laying system for the Woodhead Tunnel project, near Manchester.

Tescorp Hydraulics’ cable-laying system will be used to install 400,000V transmission electricity cables at the Woodhead Tunnel.

According to Tescorp Hydraulics, its involvement in the project was financed by the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC). It is the largest contract in the company’s history.

Tescorp Hydraulics says it has provided similar machines for projects in Auckland and Sydney. Work on the UK upgrades began in February 2008 and are expected to take around two years to complete.

The EFIC says it aims to support small-to-medium Australian exporters achieve international success.
